Care:
Ming Aralia (Polyscias fruticosa) thrives best in bright, indirect light, though it can tolerate medium light levels with slower growth; direct, harsh sunlight should be avoided as it can cause leaf burn. The soil should be kept slightly moist but never soggyβwater only when the top 1β2 cm of soil dries out, as the plant is sensitive to overwatering and prone to root rot. It prefers warm conditions, with an ideal temperature range of 18β30Β°C, and should be protected from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes. Ming Aralia loves high humidity (60% or more), and low humidity often leads to leaf drop, which is a common issue. For healthy growth, use a well-draining, airy soil mix, ideally combining 40% cocopeat or peat, 30% perlite or sand, and 30% compost or vermicompost.
π± Using Ming Aralia in a Terrarium
βοΈ Is Ming Aralia Terrarium-Safe?
Ming Aralia can be used in a terrarium, but only when the conditions are right. It performs best in closed or semi-closed terrariums that offer enough space and stable humidity. Medium to large terrariums are ideal, with a minimum height of 25β40 cm, so the plant has room to grow and maintain airflow. Good internal air circulation is important to prevent fungal issues. For best results, choose fine-leaf or fern-leaf Ming Aralia, preferably dwarf or young plants, as they adapt better to confined environments. Avoid using large-leaf varieties such as Fabian Aralia or Balfour Aralia, as they quickly outgrow terrariums and struggle in high humidity.
